There are currently three types of under-screen fingerprints on the market, which are capacitive, optical and ultrasonic. The fingerprint technology under the capacitive screen is relatively mature. At present, most mobile phones use this technology, but the penetration is low; optical fingerprints mainly rely on light reflection, which is limited by the volume of the mobile phone, and the LCD screen cannot Self-luminous, only the OLED screen can be used, so the cost is high; the ultrasonic fingerprint screen uses the density difference between the surface of the fingerprint and the air to construct a 3D image, which has stronger penetrating power and higher recognition rate.
Now, Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released a report showing that Samsung Galaxy S11 may be the world's first mobile phone with ultra-thin fingerprints. The fingerprint recognition under the ultra-thin screen is a new solution proposed by the supplier, which is mainly suitable for 5G mobile phones.
It is understood that Samsung Galaxy S11 will use the ultra-thin screen fingerprint solution provided by Aegis Co., Ltd., and the company will also become Samsung's exclusive supplier. Aegis is a Taiwanese technology company whose main business is fingerprint biometrics and data encryption systems, specializing in providing integrated turnkey solutions.
However, Aegis is not the only company with ultra-thin screen fingerprint recognition technology, Goodix Technology also has it. According to previous reports, Goodix has proposed new design and stacking requirements for 5G mobile phones, and will launch an ultra-thin fingerprint solution in the second half of the year for large-scale commercial use.
As for which of these two suppliers will be the first to launch ultra-thin screen fingerprint recognition technology, it is still unknown which mobile phone manufacturer will be the first to launch a mobile phone equipped with this technology. The Samsung S11 equipped with this technology is only Guo Mingchi’s prediction. It is still uncertain. I believe that other manufacturers are not vegetarian, and should follow up this technology as soon as possible.
In addition, Guo Mingchi also stated that Goodix will not enter Samsung's supply chain. Although it is the leader in under-screen fingerprint technology, Samsung may prefer the latter because Aegis will provide more support resources. Goodix has an absolute advantage in the combination of hardware and software. Samsung is a company with relatively abundant funds, and it is not ruled out that Goodix will eventually be selected.
Not surprisingly, the ultra-thin screen fingerprint mobile phone will enter the mass production stage next year. By then, fingerprints under the optical screen are likely to be replaced and become a new generation of OLED screen fingerprint technology.
