On February 2, 2026, U.S. semiconductor manufacturer Microchip officially rolled out two new automotive-grade capacitive touchscreen controllers under its maXTouch M1 series: the ATMXT3072M1-HC and ATMXT288M1. Designed for mainstream curved OLED and Mini LED vehicle displays, the new chips address long-standing industry pain points of electromagnetic interference and unresponsive touch in humid conditions.
Traditional projected capacitive vehicle touch panels often suffer from touch drift and failed multi-point recognition when exposed to high-voltage vehicle circuits, window condensation or gloved hands in cold weather. Equipped with Microchip's proprietary mutual-capacitance sensing architecture, the new controllers deliver a 15 dB boost in signal-to-noise ratio compared with previous generations. The upgraded signal processing algorithm filters out external electrical noise from vehicle power systems, enabling stable touch detection even on oversized curved screens ranging from 10 to 32 inches.
The products fully comply with the latest ISO 26262 ASIL-B automotive safety standards and support integrated touch functions on central control screens, steering wheel touch panels and door touch buttons. Microchip stated that multiple European and North American new energy vehicle brands have placed pre-production orders, and mass delivery will kick off in the third quarter of 2026. Industry institutions forecast that the global automotive capacitive touch panel market will maintain double-digit annual growth through 2028, driven by large-screen intelligent cockpits.
