    The increasing demand of automobile users for technological innovation also means that the size of touch screen is increasing among the new functions and digital contents of users.

While traditional flat screens can accommodate flexible displays of digital information, their drawbacks quickly become apparent when it comes to user-friendliness and other design possibilities for automakers.

      To solve this problem, Continental AG developed a new 3D touchscreen.This new 3D element can be realized on the high-quality plastic surface, and the user can directly feel it with the finger, which is called blind operation.


    Continental's feedback technology also means that displays can provide tactile feedback when touching 3D surfaces, allowing drivers to operate the displays instinctively without having to turn their eyes off the road.


"As the human-computer interface of the car becomes more complex, the effective combination of tactile feedback and active and passive feedback on the 3D surface ensures an excellent user experience and greatly improves user safety," explained Dr Frank.


Touch feedback and high contrast reliability operation


     Instead of having to navigate menus on the display, drivers can use touch 3D elements that appear on either side of the screen, such as the frequently used function of the touch slider: volume or temperature Settings.At the center of the display are specific virtual buttons that allow blind manipulation of a series of applications.

      In order to prevent the driver from misbehaving when interacting with 3D elements, a force sensor needs to be made before the command is executed.

In addition, tactile feedback tells drivers that when they reach the edge of the screen, their fingers pass through the screen, allowing them to distinguish between different virtual buttons without having to look at the screen.

Tactile feedback is transmitted to the display surface in the form of short and high-precision mechanical pulses, but the tactile feedback of the display is invisible to the naked eye.


     Continental AG's haptic technology also means that the display provides tactile feedback when touched, allowing drivers to operate the display instinctively without removing their eyes from the road.

In order to optimize the image contrast of the 3d touch control display, the mainland has adopted Optically bonded process, which means the appearance may be made uniform, or the compensation may be made to adapt to the size and shape of any display.


     I think this technology from Continental AG solves the biggest pain point in the development of intelligent surfaces for cars.

In the past, when many of us talked about the touch control technology of cars, the feedback of not being able to operate blind and without mechanical buttons was always the most dissatisfied point for most people.

     However, these problems were perfectly solved in the technology demonstration of CES.
