The United States further tightened restrictions on Huawei in August, prohibiting suppliers from selling chips made using American technology to Huawei without special permission. According to sources, Samsung Display and LG Display decided to stop supplying products to Huawei from the date when the restrictions took effect on September 15 because the ban includes chips required to operate the display.
An industry official said: "According to the sanctions regulations, it is difficult to deliver chips such as driver ICs, touch ICs and PMIC (power management chips) to Huawei. Even if they are delivered, their smartphones cannot be used." In addition, according to the Chosun Ilbo reported on the evening of September 8, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will also stop supplying chips to Huawei on the 15th, and the "discontinued supply" also includes memory and mobile AP.
