Samsung monitor instructs Korean partners to promote the development of steam cover and provide steam cover trial products

Samsung Display recently instructed Korean partners to promote the development of the hood and asked for a steamer trial. According to South Korea's Technology media etnews, the steamer development company that cooperates with Samsung includes Wavetc, Philoptics, TGO Technology, etc.
The report pointed out that since the production of small and medium-sized OLED monitors by Samsung monitors in 2007, Shadow Mask, the core part of OLED, relies entirely on Japanese imports, although Samsung monitors are trying to be localized, however, due to problems such as Japanese suppliers and domestic quality, there has been no improvement so far. Recently, after Japan strengthened its export restrictions on South Korea, Samsung monitors have to take action.
Among them, precision metal shielding (FMM) is a kind of steaming cover. It is one of the core parts for the production of small and medium-sized OLED, and it is also the core factor that determines the resolution of the display. The steaming cover is made of Invar, which is thinner than the paper. There are several small holes on it. After the organic material passes through the steaming cover in the high temperature steamer, the Pixel will be formed on the substrate, so the thickness, hole size and angle of the evaporation cover will affect the resolution of the display.
In order to produce small and medium-sized OLED, Samsung monitor and Japan DNP (Japan printing) signed an exclusive supply contract. DNP must provide a steaming cover with fixed thickness and holes, although DNP also provides steaming cover to Chinese panel companies, but the quality is not as good as Samsung monitor. Although Japan's toppan printing (letterpress PRINTING) also supplies steaming covers to overseas enterprises outside DNP, it is generally believed that DNP has the best quality and DNP has long occupied the market, it has also become one of the reasons why South Korea is difficult to promote localization.
Industry-related sources said Samsung monitors are worried that if the supply source is too single, DNP may not be able to provide sufficient inventory or export restrictions.
The steaming cover is an alloy made of iron and nickel. DNP obtains raw materials from Hitachi Metal Co., Ltd. and uses 500 ~ The 600 °C high-temperature evaporation process creates a non-drooping, thin Intile alloy, which DNP and Hitachi Metal Co., Ltd. jointly hold. At present, Korean companies are trying to manufacture steam masks in other ways. Although Wavetc has developed a Full HD grade of steam masks, it still cannot meet the thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) standard.
Relevant enterprises said that the original stagnant development project began to accelerate due to the deepening of trade disputes between Japan and South Korea. Judging from changes such as Samsung monitors proposing development projects and re-testing all proposals, this may be a new turning point for South Korea.
