According to industry sources, LG Display recently completed the final Test of high purity hydrogen fluoride provided by a Korean company and began to use it on the production line. The hydrogen fluoride made by South Korea meets the requirements of production and cost. It is reported that LG Display applies Korean products to organic light emitting diode (OLED) panel production line.
Samsung Display is expected to complete the test of domestic high purity hydrogen fluoride in September. Since no key problems have been found so far, korean local products are likely to be used for mass production immediately after the final test. Previously, Samsung Display used hydrogen fluoride from Japanese and Korean materials companies. Before Japan's economic retaliation, it had been conducting various hydrogen fluoride tests.
Different from the semiconductor production line using nanoscale technology, the panel production does not need ultra-high purity hydrogen fluoride. Hydrogen fluoride is mainly used for wet etching to remove defective layers and clean to remove organic substances and oxide on the surface of the panel.
LG Display said on August 24 that it would take some time to test hydrogen fluoride produced in South Korea, but it was completed faster than expected. An industry official said, "the dependence on Japanese hydrogen fluoride will be greatly reduced, but it is still a problem to ensure the supply of ultra-high purity hydrogen fluoride ."
